Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our October 2016 winners:
Jamie Janeczko, maintenance supervisor at Life Care Center of Valparaiso, Indiana, helped the residents enjoy a historic event. The World Series, featuring the town’s favorite team, the Chicago Cubs, was not being televised on any local stations. One resident commented that this would probably be his last World Series. Janeczko contacted the satellite company and worked out a deal to get the channel for a short period of time at a reduced cost. “This gesture made the residents’ day,” said his nominator. “You could hear the cheers in the hallway when they heard they could watch all the games!”
Dione Velez, licensed practical nurse at Life Care Center of Westlake, Ohio, knew that a resident loves kids and wanted to participate in Halloween. Velez made arrangements for the resident to go home with her to trick-or-treat with her family. He had such a good time trick-or-treating in his Power Rangers costume and talked about his special outing for days.
Deveri Crookston, certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley in Boise, Idaho, has gone out of her way on multiple occasions to help agitated patients call their families to talk. She also cheered up a resident who was feeling down by bringing her one of her favorite treats – pepperoni pizza.
