On April 28, 2015, Life Care Center of Valparaiso, Indiana, threw a surprise party for Joyce Bolin, a local senior retiring from leadership of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
Associates decorated the dining room and brought out balloons, cake and gifts during the center’s monthly SOS (Serving Our Seniors) breakfast.
“She was so surprised, and her sister and co-workers attended, along with the group of seniors who always attend the breakfast,” said Cathy Ellis, director of marketing.
The RSVP organization connects seniors with volunteering opportunities in the region. Bolin has been with RSVP for 17 years.
“I have volunteered for Joyce and the RSVP for computer classes for the seniors and co-sponsored the yearly volunteer breakfast for all regional senior volunteers,” said Ellis. “It was an honor to be able to celebrate this special day with her.”
The facility’s monthly SOS breakfasts give seniors a chance to socialize and often include educational presentations.
